Whether you are just starting a business or have been going for awhile, it’s pretty easy to think that you have your marketing strategy covered. Most of the businesses that I work with mainly want to discuss social media marketing which can be a low-cost and highly successful alternative if you don’t want to drop too much into your marketing budget. That is, if you have the time it takes to create enough content and community to make it successful.

There is another low-cost way to promote your business, events, and products that often gets ignored by DIYers: press releases.

The press release is a great way to leverage existing media sources to help get information to your business out. Local TV, radio, and newspapers all have people on hand to collect your release and help distribute its contents their consumers. That said, there is a right and wrong way to format a press release.
