2 People Arrested In Stabbing Investigation: Police

Robert Fogelman is accused of stabbing a man in Downtown Portland Wednesday afternoon. Nenita Gatlin is accused of hiding Fogelman's knife.

PORTLAND, OR — Two people were arrested Wednesday in connection with a stabbing investigation near the Burnside Bridge in downtown Portland. One of the suspects is the alleged assailant; the other reportedly helped him hide the weapon he used.

Robert Emerson Fogelman, 39, and Nenita Rose Gatlin, 45, were both taken to Multnomah County Jail. Gatlin was charged with tampering with evidence; she has since been released. Fogelman is charged with second-degree assault. His bail is set at $250,000.

Portland Police Bureau East Precinct officers were dispatched just after 12:15 p.m. Oct. 31 to Northwest Naito Parkway and West Burnside Street on the report of a disturbance in the area. At the scene, responding officers reportedly found a man suffering from a non-life-threatening stab wound.

Before he was shuttled away to hospital, the man described his attacker to police. Officers searching the area reportedly located Fogelman and, believing he was a match for the suspect, arrested him. As their search continued, officers found the knife they believe was used in the stabbing, which they said an acquaintance of Fogelman attempted unsuccessfully to hide.

For allegedly attempting to hide Fogelman's knife, Gatlin was taken into custody.

Police noted their belief that Fogelman knew his victim and stated there was not likely any immediate danger to the general public. Fogelman, however, told interviewing recognizance officers at the jail he did not known the person he allegedly stabbed.

Anyone who may have additional information to assist this investigation is asked to contact the PPB's assault detail at 503-823-0479.
