Here are the top three stories in Portland today:
- Portland Community College will receive $910,000 as part of government funding passed by the House and Senate. The Community Project Funding, part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, will provide funding to the community college for semiconductor and advanced manufacturing workforce training and support services. Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici said, "I look forward to seeing how the funding from this legislation helps our communities thrive, and I am committed to continuing to work on these important issues." (Press Release Desk)
- Henry F. Mendoza, 25, was arrested Thursday after firing shots at the owner of a stolen truck he was driving earlier that day. The 2006 Ford F350 was stolen around 2:30 p.m. near North Crawford Street and North Pittsburg Avenue. The owner of the vehicle pursued the suspect after he fled after the tires on the vehicle were punctured by spike strips police had set up. Mendoza fired a shot that hit the driver side door of the car the owner of the truck was driving in. (Fox 12 Oregon)
- Sixteen family-sized homes have been built in the Portland area by Habitat for Humanity. The 16th home was completed on Thursday in Beaverton, and a new set of houses are underway in Hillsboro.
