Calling All Pickleball Enthusiasts!

PORTLAND, OREGON: This year the Kelly Johnson Foundation is thrilled to host the inaugural Portland Pickleball Open to be held on Saturday, July 22nd, 2023.

This local pickleball tournament is set to be hosted annually as an exciting addition to the various sporting events that the Kelly Johnson Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to give back to schools and communities while encouraging individual’s goals and passions, is proud to organize. The event will be held at Sellwood Park, 7987 Southeast Grand Avenue, Portland, Oregon 97202.

The event will showcase adult divisions, including Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, as well as a youth division, the Junior’s Singles Open. Awards will be presented to winning players in each division. Those who are interested in the event may participate as a player, volunteer, or sponsor.

All players will gain free entry into our sponsor prize drawings. We are proud to announce our 2023 sponsors: Adidas and Franklin Sports, our official ball sponsor.

Our organization and tournament founder, Kelly Johnson, shows her excitement by explaining her ambitions in creating the event. She says, “This is our first inaugural tournament in Portland! We are looking to serve the community and make an impact in this area. We hosted our first tennis event in June, which was a success, so we are looking to expand our outreach into other sports as well”.

This will be the first annual pickleball open in Portland, but Johnson is no rookie in this area of sports. She and the foundation have hosted the Wisconsin Pickleball Open in 2017, 2019, and soon to be in 2024. Johnson started the Kelly Johnson Foundation while she was teaching tennis as a summer job while attending college. She saw an opportunity to create a space of motivation and inspiration for the communities around her by building support and encouragement for those who are ambitious for success, which is how the organization was born.

The entry fee to participate as a player is $30 per Team ($15 per player). All proceeds will go towards the Johnson Family Scholarship for high school seniors.
