Caught: Oregon Inmate Found With Girlfriend 2 Days After Escape

Authorities said Scott Smith stole a truck and escaped while he was on an inmate work crew.

MULTNOMAH COUNTY, CA -- A Multnomah County inmate who went missing last Thursday was found with his girlfriend at a Gresham apartment complex over the weekend. Authorities said Scott Smith, who reportedly stole a truck and escaped while he was on an inmate work crew, was found around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Smith, 25, reportedly took the ODOT truck from the 9400-block of Northeast Hancock Drive just before 12:30 p.m. last Thursday, just as the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office work crew was conducting a cleanup of green space in the area, officials said.

Deputies and Gresham officers went to the apartment complex in the 16400 block of NE Glisan Street after detectives determined Smith was hiding there, officials said.
