A rally for Sandy Mayor Stan Pulliam, who is running for the Republican nomination for governor, was attacked by people who threw fireworks.

PORTLAND, OR — Two people were injured Saturday afternoon when a campaign rally was attacked by protesters in downtown Portland, according to police who added that both told officers that they would seek medical care on their own.
The incident happened around noon Saturday at Chapman Square where a rally was being held for Sandy Mayor Stan Pulliam, who is running for the Republican nomination for governor.
"Significant explosions" could be heard in the area, according to police who said that a group of protesters threw fireworks, smoke grenades and balloons filled with paint in the direction of the rally, striking people and vehicles.

Police said that a man told them one of his hands was hurt and a woman complained of hearing loss. Both told officers that mortars fired at the rally was the cause of their injuries, according to police.
"This is what happens when a Republican dares to hold an event in Portland to talk about funding the police," Pulliam said in a tweet.

"Antifa shows up. Well we won't be intimidated and stop speaking the truth."
Pulliam's tweet also included video showing about 10 people dressed all in black, carrying black flags and wearing black face coverings approaching his rally, tossing smoke grenades.
Police have not said if they think that the protesters are Antifa.
The probe is being handled by the Portland Police Bureau and arson investigators from Portland Fire & Rescue.
