Mailbox Stolen In Southeast Portland, County Warns Ballots May Be Gone

PORTLAND, OR — A mailbox was stolen from Southeast Portland and Multnomah County is concerned that it may have contained ballots headed for the county's election division, officials said Monday afternoon. The box had been located by Southeast Reed College Place and Southeast Woodstock Boulevard.

The county said that it does not know when it was stolen or when it was discovered missing.

At least one voter who had used the mailbox that day contacted the elections division after discovering that their ballot had not been received by the county, the county said. That person was issued a replacement ballot.

The United States Postal Service told the county that mail had last been picked up from the box at 11:35 a.m. on May 4, county officials said.

Multnomah County said that anyone who used the box to mail a ballot after that time should immediately contact Multnomah County Elections at 503-988-VOTE (8683) to check the status of their ballot.

Voters whose ballots have not been received by the county can go online or go to the county elections office at 1040 S.E. Morrison St.
