MAX Hostage Situation Resolved Without Injuries, Man Arrested
Police said that Marcus Dwaine Tate faces nearly one dozen charges after holding two people hostage.

PORTLAND, OR — Marcus Dwaine Tate, 41, is being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center after being charged with 10 counts in connection with a hostage situation about the MAX train's Red Line Tuesday afternoon, Portland police said.
Police first responded around 2:15 p.m.
Tate was arrested after about two hours after he first pulled a knife on another passenger at the Red Line's Mt. Hood Station, according to police. Tate also had something resembling a barbecue skewer, police said.

The train operator was blocked from leaving the train as well, according to police.
Around 4:30 p.m., police said that officers saw that Tate had placed the knife down at which point they deployed flash-bang grenades and were able to arrest Tate.

According to jail records, Tate ic charged with:
- Robbery in the first degree.
- Robbery in the second degree.
- Coercion.
- Two counts of menacing.
- Two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
- Two counts of harassment.
- Interfering with public transportation.
Court records indicate Tuesday's incident was not Tate's first encounter with police. On Monday, he was placed on a mental health hold after he was involved with a struggle with police and earlier this month he was charged with interfering with public transportation.
He is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
