Merkley Tests Positive For COVID-19, Urges People To Get Boosted

PORTLAND, OR — Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) tested positive for COVID-19, he announced Monday morning.

"Today, after having a close contact, I took a COVID test that came back positive," he wrote. “I'm experiencing mild symptoms so far – I know that can change – and attribute that to being vaccinated and boosted."

Merkley said that he urges all Oregonians to make sure that they've been vaccinated and boosted.

"This is yet another reminder. that COVID is still with us," he wrote. "As Americans are plans before the holiday weekend, I encourage everyone to take steps to make sure the virus is not an uninvited guest."

Oregon's senior senator, Democrat Ron Wyden, had a bout with COVID earlier this month and has since recovered.
