Mother Of 2 Dies From MRSA, Pneumonia Days After Diagnosis

Tandy Harmon went to hospital on Wednesday thinking she had the flu. She passed away Friday.

GRESHAM, OR — A Gresham mother of two passed away in hospital last Friday after learning she had pneumonia and MRSA — a bacteria often responsible for difficult-to-treat infections. But she initially thought she just had the flu, and so did the doctors.

Tandy Harmon reportedly went to hospital Jan. 17, a few days after leaving early from work at Bradford’s Sports Lounge when she started feeling ill, according to KATU News. Doctors reportedly told Harmon she had the flu, then sent her home. Only later did they realize her illness was considerably worse.

"They told her she had the flu and drink lots of liquids and go home,” Harmon’s long-term employer Brad Fouts told KATU. “By 4 in the afternoon, they were telling us it was unlikely she would survive.”

Harmon leaves behind two kids, a 12-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter.

A GoFundMe account was setup to assist Harmon's family, and on Jan. 26 — after five days — raised more than half its $10,000 goal.

“There are no words to describe how much we miss her right now,” Fouts said. “We're going to get through this and we're going to get through this for Tandy's children and Tandy, and we're going to keep her in our lives forever.”
