Patch talks to The Freshwater Trust about the work its doing to preserve and protect the Oregon environment.

Patch: Tell Patch a little bit about your organization!

The Freshwater Trust: The Freshwater Trust is a group of bold problem solvers designing and implementing data-driven solutions that protect and restore America’s freshwater.Using science, technology, policy and finance, The Freshwater Trust builds and manages solutions that improve water quality and quantity. With data and 21st century tools and technologies, we enable smarter watershed management to happen faster and at a greater scale. We also employ our solutions on the ground for the benefit of both watersheds and the plants, animals and people that rely on them.

Patch: How does your organization help to strengthen the local community?

The Freshwater Trust: We work diligently to highlight the collaborative action that takes place among farmers, foresters, ranchers and local conservation groups throughout the state. There has been long-held public perception that these groups are at odds and we are finding that's no longer the case. We hope to highlight these stories at the local level that show successful collaborations with mutual benefit that might inspire Oregonians to learn more and know what resources are available to them that might help solve unique land issues they face.

Patch: What is the biggest struggle your organization faces?

The Freshwater Trust: The Freshwater Trust is still not a huge presence in Portland and we would love to meet more supporters and friends who care about protecting and restoring freshwater ecosystems.

Patch: What do you hope for the future of your nonprofit?

The Freshwater Trust: The Freshwater Trust will ultimately continue fighting for a future where clean, abundant freshwater resources support our environment, economy and society.
