Neighborhood Nonprofit Spotlight: Oregon Paranormal

Oregon Paranormal, a nonprofit dedicated to exploring the paranormal side of Portland, shares its story with Patch.

Patch talks to Oregon Paranormal about its mission to investigate phenomena that cannot be explained, and assist those who've had paranormal experiences in the Oregon area by conducting research and facilitating discussion.

Patch: Tell Patch a little bit about your organization!

Oregon Paranormal: Oregon Paranormal was established in 2009 for the purpose of conducting paranormal research throughout the Pacific Northwest. We exist to aid those who feel they may be experiencing phenomena they cannot explain. Our organization is comprised of an amazing group of researchers who hold the same core values, which Oregon Paranormal prides itself on. Our mission was to build a research organization that people could turn to for help and support, which we believe we've been successful at achieving. Over the years we've conducted a number of investigations, between residential, commercial, and historical sites including joint investigations with teams through out the region.

Patch: How does your organization help to strengthen the local community?

Oregon Paranormal: Sometimes people have a hard time feeling comfortable in their homes because they feel they may be sharing it with something they can't explain or more bluntly put; something that may be paranormal in nature. We're there to hopefully add some calm to the storm and ease some of their concerns about what they may or may not be dealing with.

Patch: What is the biggest struggle your organization faces?

Oregon Paranormal: I'd say time is our biggest struggle. Because our process is very lengthy its difficult for us to take on every case study that comes across our desk. Due to our extensive research process and strict protocols, a typical case study for can last anywhere from six to seven months depending of the severity of the claims and the data we're able to acquire from the location we're investigating.

Patch: What do you hope for the future of your nonprofit?

Oregon Paranormal: Our biggest goals for the future are to continue moving this field of research forward in positive ways, as well as continuing to educate the public by clearing up any misinformation being being put out there by movie and tv shows.
