Northwestern Mutual raises money to help children with cancer

Northwestern Mutual once again partnered with JoyRx as the presenting sponsor of the annual Golf for Joy Tournament

Northwestern Mutual once again partnered with JoyRx as the presenting sponsor of the annual Golf for Joy Tournament in support of a shared mission – improving the lives of children and families in need. Now in its 14th year, the event raises donations to help JoyRx provide free programs that bring joy to kids and teens around the United States who are facing childhood cancer or other serious illnesses.

“We’re honored to have contributed to the more than $840,000 fundraised at this year’s Golf for Joy Tournament and humbled by the tremendous generosity from the Portland community,” said Gay Davis, financial advisor, Northwestern Mutual Portland, and founding member of Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club and the Golf for Joy event. “The dollars fundraised will give children and teens affected by childhood cancer a needed outlet for joy through music, nature and mentoring programs, helping lift their spirits as they face lengthy treatments.”

The golf tournament was held at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club from June 24 to June 26, and offered a free golf skills clinic for children, silent and live auctions and a benefit dinner to raise funds for the cause. With the support of Northwestern Mutual and other sponsors, the event raised more than any other year, with a record of over $840,000 in support of JoyRx. To date, Golf for Joy has become one of JoyRx’s top fundraising events, raising more than $3 million to deliver the healing power of joy to children in need.

“Thanks to Northwestern Mutual’s partnership, JoyRx is able to provide more moments of joy through free programs to thousands of seriously ill kids annually,” said Jack Pipkin, senior vice president of revenue and development, JoyRx. “Together, we’re making a difference and transforming their pediatric health care experience.”

Northwestern Mutual, through its Foundation, has funded more than 700,000 hours of research to accelerate the search for better treatments and cures for childhood cancer and contributed more than $60 million to the cause overall.
