Oregon COVID-19 Cases Decline, Breakthroughs 25% Of All Cases
While the newest report from the Oregon Health Authority reports 59 new COVID-19 deaths, the number of cases declined for another week.
PORTLAND, OR — It was a good news/bad news from the Oregon Health Authority. While the number of cases overall went down yet again, there were 59 deaths the day before. Also, breakthrough cases continue to be a growing problem.
Nearly 25 percent of the more than 10,000 cases reported in he state for the week of Sept 26-Oct. 2 were breakthrough cases. There were 10,411 cases reported that week and 2,542 – or 24.4 percent – were breakthrough.

OHA reports that the average age of people affected by breakthrough cases during the week was 46. Of concern to officials is that the average age is getting younger. The 46 years old is two years younger than the average of all 28,075 cases that have been reported in the state.
Breakthrough cases have been diagnosed in all 36 of Oregon's 36 counties.

Officials say that if there's good news to be found in the new numbers, it's that of all breakthrough cases in the state, only 4.5 percent have been hospitalized and only .8 percent have died.
The average age of people who have died from a breakthrough case is 81.
Meanwhile, while the overall number of cases have been on the decline, the cases that are occuring a presenting a tremendous strain on hospital across the state.
OHA says that only 7 percent of adult ICU beds and only 7 percent of adult non-ICU beds are available.
There have been 339,556 total cases of COVID-19 reported in Oregon and 3,959 deaths.
Washington, Clackamas, and Multnomah counties are all still near the top of counties reporting cases with 134, 69, and 151 new cases, respectively, being reported on Wednesday.
