Oregon COVID-19 Cases Spike, More Than 3,500 Over Holiday Weekend

PORTLAND, OR — It's too early to know if this new surge is driven by omicron but there was definitely an increase in Oregon COVID-19 cases over the weekend. The state reported that Thursday through Sunday, there were 3,585 new cases and 25 new deaths.

Those numbers bring the total to 414,140 cases and 5,623 deaths since the pandemic began.

The Oregon Health Authority reports that since December 17 when Governor Brown issued a challenge to get booster shots for 1 million more people, 145,346 have received the additional shot.

The increase in cases is not helping ease the strain on hospitals.

More than 90 percent of adult ICU and non-ICU beds are currently filled across the state.

Meanwhile, OHA says that the new cases were spread across 31 of the state's 36 counties.
