Oregon COVID-19 Latest: Total Cases Jump Day To Day, Week To Week

While the number of new COVID-19 cases in Oregon continue surging, the number of deaths and hospitalizations are dropping.

PORTLAND, OR — More bad news from the Oregon Health Authority. The number of new COVID-19 cases in the state increased last week by 25 percent over the week before. Tuesday's new case total was 22 percent higher than the day before.

The 2,331 new cases on Tuesday brought the state's total to 418,333 since the pandemic began. There were also nine more deaths, bringing the total number of Oregonians who died since the start of the pandemic to 5,640.

Officials say that the week-over-week report is concerning.

There was the 25 percent increase in total cases, which came despite a 7.1 drop in the number of reported test results. OHA says that while there were fewer tests conducted, the positivity rate rose to 7.4 percent from 4.8 percent the week before.

OHA said that on the positive side, the state saw a decline in hospitalizations – a 35 percent drop last week from the week before. The total 185 hospitalizations is the lowest weekly total since July.

The state says that the 2,331 new cases on Tuesday were spread across 34 of Oregon's 36 counties. Here's the county by county breakdown:
