Portland Art Museum Gears Up for 2017

PORTLAND,OR - The Portland Art Museum has 3 exhibits coming up in 2017 that are worth putting on your calendar now. From ancient Korean prints to silhouettes of traumatic slave era scenes, Portland Art Museum is already planning on a diverse line up in the coming year.
1) Cranes, Dragons and Teddy Bears (October 22 - March 26) is an exploration of the Japanese Children's Kimono as it evolved in style and structure over time. The exhibit features 20 pieces, 7 of which are miyamairi- hand painted and treasured by the fortunate children who came from elevated families lucky enough to afford these kimonos.

2) Rodin: The Human Experience (January 21 - April 16) features several expertly carved pieces created by Auguste Rodin, a renown sculptor that worked in the early 20th century. His bronze cast sculptures are emblematic for this era, and hearken back to pieces in the style of Renaissance greats like Michelangelo. Rodin in revered for his ability to make hardened bronze appear to look like living flesh.

3) Constructing Identity (January 28 - June 18) explores what it's like to be an African-American in 21st century America, in a society that claims to be 'post-racial.' The exhibit features works in different mediums created by prominent African American artists, such as Kara Walker, Donald E Camp, Paul Keene and Moe Brooker. The pieces come from the Pettruci Family Foundation Collection of African American Art.

If you'd like to visit the museum, it is open to the public from Tuesday-Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $19.99 for adults, $16.99 for seniors 62 and up and college students and free for children 17 and under. Interested in becoming a member? E-mail membership@pam.org.
