  1. On Wednesday, Apr. 12, the Portland City Council announced it will give Portland Fire & Rescue funding to add 13 additional firefighters to its team. The funding is meant to alleviate the number of people working overtime and limit the coverage needed for the longer shifts. These new positions will play a critical component in stabilizing the department's staffing, which has been stretched thin recently. (KATU)
  2. The Good Food Awards have officially been relocated to Portland after taking place in San Francisco since 2011. The awards are an annual competition that's meant to recognize American craft food products and provide support to food and drink producers through a variety of programs. For the 2023 awards, the Good Food Foundation narrowed down the pool of around 2,000 entries to 513 finalists. (Eater Portland)
  3. Suzie Hicks' new show "Suzie Hicks the Climate Chick" won the Visionary Film Award at the Ecofilm Festival in Portland. The show was originally inspired by "Bill Nye the Science Guy" and is meant to educate children about the dooming effects of climate change. On Sunday, Apr. 16, Suzie will be hosting a screening and workshop for kids at the festival in honor of her exciting win. (Open Bench Project)
