Portland Litterati Invited to Urban Tellers ® Wordstock Edition

Portland Story Theater partners with Literary Arts for an evening of live story telling based on the popular book festival in Portland.

The Portland Story Theater is partnering with the Wordstock portion of Literary Arts in order to create a unique story telling experience. Urban Tellers will be hosted on November 4 at 7 p.m. at the Fremont Theater, located at 2393 NE Fremont Street, Portland OR 97212

The Urban Tellers series will feature six different local writers working together to tell a unique story. The storyteller selected for this event each have a different literary background which will work to create a new narrative voice.

  • Gigi Rosenberg, a local legend and popular voice on Oregon Public Broadcasting. She works with artists to help them receive funding for their different projects. In 2010, she wrote The Artists Guide to Grant Writing which has proved a useful resource to Portland writers over time.
  • Rachel Miller-Howard, a graduate of Wesleyan with a degree in Anthropology has worked on education documentaries created by Dawson Media Group, which is her current gig. She's passionate about nature and poetry.
  • Sage Cohen, a prolific graduate of Brown with a Creative Writing degree, has several titles under her belt already, such as Fierce on the Page, The Productive Writer and Writing the Life Poetic.   • Kate Ristau, a self-proclaimed 'story teller at heart. She resides in Oregon with her son and dog. She works on a Middle School series called Clockbreakers that follows the journey of Charlie, an 11 year old girl who is confined to a wheel chair and must navigate society.   • Jamie Shanahan, whose pen name is Jamie Houghton, has made her name in the Slam Poetry world after graduating from Smith college in 2006.
  • Jessica Tyner Mehta, an Oregon native and proud member of the Cherokee nation. An ambitious, accomplished woman with several completed novel under her belt, as well as a yoga practice. 100 Ways to Make 100K with Your English Degree was certainly popular among the literati in Portland.
