Here are the top three stories today in Portland:

  1. On Saturday, Apr. 29, a Portland police officer was hit by a driver on Interstate 205 while chasing a suspect on foot. Officers spotted a car that was recently reported stolen on Southeast 97th Avenue, and when approaching the parked car, the man inside, 33-year-old Norman R. Kurth began running onto I-205. The officer is currently recovering at home as he was hit at a low speed and only suffered a broken ankle. (Oregon Live)
  2. Multnomah County is set to begin mailing ballots to residents today (Tuesday, May 2), six days after they were supposed to be sent out. The delay is a result of election officials mistakenly including a Board of Commissioners race on the May 16 ballot for all voters in the county. This specific race is only for voters who live in District 3, which includes residents in the area that straddles I-205 in Southeast Portland. (Oregon Live)
  3. Shemia Fagan, Oregon's Secretary of State, recently announced she has ended her paid consulting contract with Veriede Holdings LLC. The termination comes after concerns were raised following a potential conflict of interest and the governor calling to do an investigation of the secretary's recusal from a state audit on the cannabis industry. Veriede Holdings LLC has made contributions to Fagan's campaigns in the past and is an affiliate of the cannabis company, La Mota. (KOIN)

From my notebook:

  • According to the National Weather Service, Portland is starting out May with plenty of clouds and a slight chance of evening thunderstorms throughout the Willamette Valley. This week is slated to be mostly dry, but residents will still get a few spotty showers around the Portland metro area. By Thursday, scattered showers are more likely as temperatures begin to cool off again. (KOIN)
