Dear PPS Families,
Find out what's happening in Portlandfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
On Monday, Portland Public Schools, along with the majority of Oregon school districts, will follow the guidance of federal, state and county officials and make face masks optional in schools.
We know this is a big step for all of us and that some families will choose to continue to have their students wear a mask. We urge everyone to practice understanding and compassion – everyone, masked or not, should feel like they belong, regardless of their own personal decision around COVID-19 safety, including the use of masks. Each family has its own circumstances and deserves respect. Please know that our staff will not attempt to influence your decision on masking and will create safe, inclusive classrooms that respect each individual decision.

We urge all parents and guardians to speak to your students before they return to class Monday. To help guide the conversation, we offer this slideshow.
We know many of you have questions, and we have gathered some answers in a Q&A document.
Even as we take this step forward, we want to remind you that vaccinations remain the best tool to contain the spread and lessen the impact of COVID-19. We urge anyone who is eligible (5 and older) to get vaccinated and boosted.
We look forward to taking this big step together Monday. Have a great weekend!
