Portland Streets: SE 136th Ave. Repaving And Rebuilding Is Done
Construction took 18 months but the Portland Bureau of Transportation says the work on SE 136th Avenue between Division and Foster is done.

PORTLAND, OR — Walk along Southeast 136th Avenue between Division and Foster, one thing becomes immediately clear: it hasn't always been like this. After 18 months of work, the Portland Bureau of Transportation finally finished work on revitalizing the 1.8-mile stretch of road.
There is a continuous sidewalk on the west side of the street, there are 48 curb ramps that are now ADA-compliant, there are protected bike lanes, new street lighting, and a lot of new trees.
The city spent $6.7 million on the project.

"This investment on SE 136th Avenue continues our focus on the historically neglected streets of East Portland and improves the quality of life for everyone in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood," Transportation Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty. says.

"By creating this neighborhood amenity, the beautiful natural spaces in this part of our city, including the numerous parks and play areas, are now accessible to all."
The improvements will help the quality of life of students at nearby schools such as Gilbert Park Elementary ad Lincoln Park Elementary, allowing kids to walk to school without having to go into the street.
People heading to parks such as Leach Botanical Garden and Powell Butte Nature Park will also see benefits.
