Here are the top three stories in Portland today:

  1. Transportation agencies, including the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT), are under pressure to make the roads in Portland safer. Fifty people have been killed on Portland roads this year alone. The bureau is currently working on a project called Safer Outer Stark, a $20-million plan that will add more bike lanes, better sidewalks, improved lighting, and more crosswalks with more visibility. However, construction won't finish until 2025. Learn more about the advocates speaking up for those wounded or killed on Portland roads at the link. (KATU)
  2. The real estate market in Portland is cooling down as temps drop. While housing sale prices usually drop in the fall, this decline is steeper than usual. In October, the median price of Portland-area home sales is $537,000 — down $11,000 (2 percent) from September, but up 4.1 percent from the median sale price of $516,000 in October 2021. Lake Oswego/West Linn and Ridgefield/La Center are areas with home prices still on a high as North and Northeast Portland continues to have the slowest year-after-year growth. (Portland Monthly)
  3. Looking for a new place to eat this fall? The long-anticipated Jewish deli, Jacob & Sons, has recently opened at 337 NW Broadway. This take-out-only eatery features Reubens, matzo ball soup, potato salad, and three different kinds of pickles. If you're looking for dinner and a show, check out the New Orleans-inspired cocktail bar and independent live music venue, Lollipop Shoppe now located at 736 SE Grand Avenue. Check out the food and drink recommendations at the link. (Eater Portland)
