Safe Route to School Screens 'Slow Way Home'
Safe Route to School, a neighborhood safety organization will screen a documentary about educating children on commuting to school, Oct 4

PORTLAND, OR- Safe Routes to School, a neighborhood safety organization that helps teach kids safety skills for navigating their neighborhood is screening a documentary called Slow Way Home about the different ways kids commute to school in America and Japan. The screening will be held at Clinton Street Theater at 6:30 PM.
There is a fundamental difference between public schools in America and Japan; Slow Way Home calls attention to the reasons why 98% of kids in Japan walk to school, and only 15% of American students do.
The documentary is a comparison between what's happening with schools and Japan as opposed to what's happening in America. In addition to a screening of the film, there will be a panel holding a talk-back discussion for students enrolled in schools across Oregon. The panel will allow parents and other community members to discuss safety strategies and voice their different concerns.
