Volunteer With The Nature Conservancy
Need academic credit? What about service hours? Nature Conservancy has the program for you.

The Nature Conservancy in Oregon offers several different volunteer programs for the people of Portland who are interested in environmental conservation and community building.
The Conservancy's mission which is to 'conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends,' is supported in part by the opportunities it offers community members to contribute to the preservation of the Oregon environment.
Molly Dougherty, Director of Volunteer Programs for The Nature Conservancy, talks to Patch about her work with the programs.

"I have been the director for more than 15 years. It's pretty robust and we have a lot of volunteers," said Doughetry.
Many people are introduced to the conservancy though their restoration work parties.

"It's a great way to get out and see some of the natural areas. The Cascade Head Preserve on the coast is celebrating its 50 year anniversary. There are opportunities to maintain the trails and remove invasive species," said Dougherty.
Hundreds of people come out for these events. Whether they're meeting a service requirement, or just looking to give back to the community, Nature Conservancy provides plenty of opportunities for those interested. They have close to 1,000 volunteers.
"We have a real mix; student volunteers, high school and college age, young professionals and retirees," said Dougherty.
Throughout the “field season,” several of the Conservancy’s nature preserves, including the Cassamia Natural Area in the Portland-area has a lot of engagement. In addition to their preserves, they regularly partner Portland Parks and Recreation to offer volunteer projects in some of the cities most iconic parks.
The conservancy also offers internships for academic credit to students.
