World Naked Bike Ride Returns to Portland July 30 After 2-Year Break

PORTLAND, OR — There will be thousands of people. They will be on bicycles. Chances are that most of them will be naked.

After being forced to take two years off because of the pandemic-related restrictions that were in place, The World Naked Bike Ride will be back on the streets of Portland on July 30.

Organizers made the announcement on Friday afternoon.

This will be the 17th time that the event will be held though only the 16th time officially under the name of "The World Naked Bike Ride."

While the event has averaged around 10,000 riders the past few years that the event was held, organizers said that they expect this year to be smaller.

They added that as is always the case, the route won't be released until the day of. Organizers want people to remember that while some people wish the ride were illegal, that's not the case. the ride is a protest against what they say is "the folly of oil dependency."

As for how naked can people get, organizers state on their website that, people should "strip down to whatever level will maximize your fun. We wouldn’t presume to tell you what that level is."

However, they do ask that all riders wear at least one thing – a mask.

"We are responsible for the safety of our community and therefore request that everyone who rides this year in the buff please wear a mask.," they wrote on their website.
