Abington Chess Team Wins Championship
The school's chess team wins the state title in the U1000 division.

Over the weekend, the Abington Senior High School chess team entered into the Pennsylvania State Chess Championship. The team won the state title for the U1000 division and placed fifth in the U1300 division. The team also won several accolades over the weekend, which featured more than 400 of the top high school chess players in the state.
In the U1000 division, the team entered the final round of play behind three teams. In an improbable comeback, The Ghosts reeled off four wins in succession beating Exeter High School, Waynesboro High School and Jim Thorpe High School, and clinched the state championship for this division. Leading the team were: Andrew Giguere, Andy Tran, Julie Sellers and Alex Veltchev.
The U1300 division saw seniors Ben Kruger and Eric Goldsborough lead their team to a fifth place finish.
