Abington School District Will Provide Info On Grade Reconfiguration Plan With New Website

Abington school leaders recently announced a grade reconfiguration plan throughout the district. A new website helps keep people informed.

ABINGTON, PA — The Abington School District has unveiled a new website dedicated to keeping families informed about a new grade reconfiguration plan at the suburban district.

The new website, which can be found here, contains information about the district's plan to reconfigure grades throughout the district's nine schools starting next school year, a move that came in part due to changing enrollment figures.

Abington school administrators presented its initial plans to the school board in September. It says that starting in September 2022, ninth grade students will move over to the high school, which currently only serves grades 10 through 12, and that sixth grade students would move over to Abington Junior High School, which now serves grades seven through nine, according to the announcement.

The district says the reconfiguration plan will free up classroom space throughout Abington's seven elementary schools, which currently serve kindergartners through sixth graders. Under the new plan, elementary schools will house students in kindergarten through fifth grade instead.

Abington school officials have also since announced that there is a possible plan in the works to change the name of Abington Junior High School to Abington Middle School given the grade level changes.
