Abington School Board Will Discuss District's Updated Health & Safety Plan Tuesday

Abington School District released its health & safety plan late last week. The school board will address the revised document Tuesday.

ABINGTON, PA —The Abington Board of School Directors is poised to discuss and vote on the district's updated health and safety plan during a special meeting Tuesday evening.

Patch reported last week on the special meeting to address the health and safety document.

The revised plan was released on Friday and it can be read in its entirety here.

Under the plan, students in the Abington School District will continue to be offered in-person learning, although they will also be required to continue wearing face masks while inside school buildings.

Universal masking policies mandated by school districts across the commonwealth have caused some controversy among parents of school children, but many school district administrators maintain that the measure, supported by many health officials, is necessary to help spread the curb of COVID-19.

Abington, citing the Montgomery County Office of Public Health, says that any changes in mask usage will be based on school district level of community transmission of the virus, and current rising coronavirus rates in the eastern part of the county means that students and staff will continue having to don face coverings during the school day.

Abington school directors are expected to vote on the revised health and safety plan and send it to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, as is currently required of school districts across the commonwealth during the global pandemic.

The special meeting will take place at 7 p.m. inside the board room of the Abington School District Administration Building, located at 970 Highland Avenue. The public is welcome to attend.

The meeting will also be broadcast on the district's YouTube channel.
