Cheltenham Township Police Arrest Man In Connection With Store Stabbing

CHELTENHAM, PA — Police have arrested a man they say was the individual caught on surveillance video stabbing a clerk at a Cheltenham Township convenience store last week.
Avery Armknecht, 19, is facing criminal attempted homicide and other charges in connection with the stabbing at the Mr. Cigarette Store on Oct. 6, according to news reports and court records.
A criminal docket sheet shows that Armknecht was arraigned on Monday before Magisterial District Judge Christopher Cerski, who set a preliminary hearing date for Oct. 21.

Court papers show that bail was denied and Armknecht was remanded into custody at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
Armknecht is facing numerous felony and misdemeanor counts in connection with the attack, which 6 ABC Action News says left the victim, the store owner's mother, in critical condition. The attack occurred in front of the victim's 3-year-old granddaughter, according to the news station.

The docket sheet in the case shows that Armknecht has been charged with a total of seven felonies, including charges relating to criminal homicide, robber and aggravated assault.
6 ABC said that Armknecht had fled the store following last week's assault, but that he turned himself in to Cheltenham Township police on Monday.
