ABINGTON, PA — A local real estate developer is transforming a corporate center in the township's Jenkintown section into what it says will be the areas first walkable, mixed-use site.

The Galman Group, a Jenkintown-based property management company, is revamping the Pavilion complex at 261 Old York Road into a mixed-use site that will be comprised of luxury apartments alongside retail stores and medical and office space.

The project is being dubbed the Pavilion Town Center.

The apartment building, called The Flats, is planned to be a 130,000-square-foot building that will join the existing 330,000 square feet of commercial space that currently occupies the footprint.

The idea, The Galman Group says, is to have a mixed-use, walkable village type feel right in the heart of this section of Abington Township.

"This development will diversify the region's existing housing stock, create lasting support for the Old York Road commercial corridor and most importantly, establish a dynamic and thriving hub that links Abington and Jenkintown and serves as a getaway to Montgomery County," Sam Goldstein, president of The Galman Group, said in a statement. "The Flats is an example of The Galman Group's thoughtful, long-term investment in the Jenkintown and Abington communities."

The apartment complex is expected to have 104 total rental units, including 14 two-bedroom townhomes, 34 two-bedroom apartments, 50 one-bedroom apartments, and 6 studio apartments, according to the developer.

There are 153 planned parking spaces.

Amenities at the site will include a covered outdoor patio, fitness center with neighboring yoga studio, a large club room, a lounge space, and a game room.

"We want to bring even more convenience and possibilities to the neighborhood we have served for so many years," Goldstein continued in his statement. "While we bridge our new and existing residential and commercial sites, we are also working with community partners to bring more events and activities to the town center that can be enjoyed by all."

Another update to the site is the recent addition of a large mural on the side of the Acme building that faces Old York Road, as well as numerous sculptures and new signage under the company's theme, "Life Happens Here."

Construction of The Flats apartment complex portion of the mixed-use site is slated to be complete by the spring of 2023.
