Edith Grace Houghton, 100, Former Phillies Scout [Obit]
Funeral for the former scout and baseball player to be held Saturday in Abington

Edith Grace Houghton, 100, of Sarasota, Fla., died Feb. 2, just eight days shy of her 101st birthday.
Born in Philadelphia, Houghton was a 1930 graduate of the Philadelphia High School for Girls. Houghton was also a baseball prodigy and played professionally with the “Bobbies.” After World War II, the Philadelphia Phillies approached her to be a scout for the team.

According to a "Miami Herald" article, Houghton worked for the Phillies from 1946-52 and was one of MLB’s first women scouts. There are also several remembrances of Houghton in the Baseball Hall of Fame, according to the article.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 16 at Baron Rowland Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Friends will be received from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia.
