Mae Reed, 61, of Pickering Street, Philadelphia, was arrested April 6 at 2:50 p.m. in Sears after a loss prevention officer saw a woman, later identified as Reed, select several items from the children’s section and put them in a Sears shopping bag, police said. Reed then put two bottles of perfume in the same bag and attempted to leave through the third floor exit.
According to police, Reed began to cry and said, “This is the first time I’ve done this. I’ve never stolen anything before in my life.”

Keisha L. Dancy, 37, of Forrest Avenue, Philadelphia, was arrested April 5 and charged with retail theft after she allegedly concealed $1,605 worth of merchandise in a pink handbag and a brown shopping bag while in Bloomingdale’s and left the store. According to police, Dancy was stopped by a Bloomingdale’s loss prevention officer in the parking lot; she had 18 pieces of merchandise.

David Staggers, 45, of North Camac Street, Philadelphia, was arrested April 2 and charged with retail theft after he allegedly attempted to steal $56 worth of merchandise from Giant in the 700 block of Huntingdon Pike shortly before 2 p.m. According to police, a Giant loss prevention officer said he saw Staggers put the items in a plastic bag and then attempt to leave. Staggers has a lengthy criminal history including several convictions for retail theft, police said.
