Alleged Shoplifter Remanded to Prison After Failing to Post Bail

The man allegedly stole $16 worth of merchandise from the Giant Food Store on Dekalb Pike.

On May 2 at 1:48 p.m., police were called to the Giant Food Store on Dekalb Pike for a report of a retail theft.

Employees told police that a white male stole approximately $16 worth of merchandise and then fled in a gray Acura, according to police. The employees were able to record the man's license plate, which was registered to Michael Soder, 37, of the 1700 block of Powell Street in Norristown.

Norristown police were able to locate the Acura on Powell Street, and they also made contact with Soder, who was in the basement of his property. He was then arrested for retail theft and receiving stolen property.

Soder was arraigned by District Justice Lawrence, who set bail at $10,000. He was remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.

According to court records, Soder has previously been convicted of a felony criminal attempt—burglary charge, as well as charges of robbery and retail theft.
