Ambler Bottom Dollar to Begin Construction by May
The long-awaited discount grocery chain will break ground in Ambler by May, with an opening scheduled for the fall.

Much to the delight of residents who long for the days when the borough had its own grocery store, officials from Bottom Dollar have announced that they plan to begin construction on their Ambler location by May of this year.
Bottom Dollar Spokeswoman Tenisha K. Waldo informed the Ambler Gazette that they're currently working through some requirements involving the adjacent property owners, but construction will begin no later than May, with their sites set on a launch in the fall.
Ambler Borough Manager Mary Aversa initially informed the Ambler Patch in Dec. 2011 that there were confirmed plans to build a Bottom Dollar store at the former Knopf Motors property at 219 East Butler Avenue.

“This is something that the town desperately wants and needs,” said Aversa, at the time. “This is a missing piece that we are thrilled to be getting back.”
From that point, representatives from Bottom Dollar presented their plans, secured proper permissions and approvals, all while eyeing an opening date before Thanksgiving of 2012.

In August of 2012, the plans hit a hiccup, as Waldo announced that the company had to work through "some requirements they committed to when they received their municipal approvals that involved adjacent property owners."
Those requirements should be addressed in the next 45 days, reports the Gazette, making a May start date for construction a realistic possibility.
Moreland Development will handle the construction, and if all goes as planned, the store is set to launch this coming fall.
