Ambler Mayoral Candidate DeRuosi to Shave Head for Cancer Charity

Frank DeRuosi, Ambler mayoral candidate and teacher at Blue Bell Elementary, will shave his head for charity this Saturday during a fundraiser at MaGerk's Pub and Grill.

Ambler mayoral candidate Frank DeRuosi will officially kick off his campaign this weekend with a pair of fundraising events, but neither will financially aid his bid for election.

DeRuosi's first stop will be MaGerk's Pub and Grill in Fort Washington, where he'll join others in having their heads shaved to help raise money for childhood cancer research through the Saint Baldrick's Foundation. The event begins at 1 p.m.

Afterwards, DeRuosi—along with his newly shaved noggin—will head over to the Read-A-Thon at the Wissahickon Valley Public Library, where he'll read "Piggy Pie" by Margie Palatini at 5:15 p.m. The 12-hour fundraiser consists of volunteers each taking a 15-minute turn reading to the children, in the hopes of raising $10,000, which will then be matched by an anonymous donor.

"Saturday, March 9, will be a day of raising money for two very deserving recipients," said DeRuosi.

A former teacher at Mattison Avenue and current fifth-grade teacher at Blue Bell Elementary, DeRuosi announced his candidacy for mayor in a Letter to the Editor on Feb. 15.
