Driver Flees Whitpain Traffic Stop When Cop Spots Weed, Police Say

Walter Boone Sr., 42, of Norristown, is facing charges after he allegedly fled a traffic stop after police spotted marijuana in his vehicle.

A Norristown man is facing numerous charges after he allegedly fled the scene of a traffic stop once police spotted bags of marijuana in his vehicle.

According to Whitpain Township Police, an officer on patrol spotted a black GMC traveling near the intersection of North Wales Road and Skippack Pike at 5:47 p.m. on March 8. As the GMC made its way onto North Wales Road, the report states an officer stopped the vehicle for a violation.

While speaking to the driver – identified as 42-year-old Walter Boone Sr., of Norristown – the officer allegedly spotted multiple bags of marijuana in the center console. Boone then allegedly fled the scene of the traffic stop, traveling north at a high rate of speed, the report states.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but withdrew from pursuit as the vehicle "recklessly fled through traffic into North Wales Borough."

On Monday, March 11, Boone turned himself into the Whitpain Township Police Department. He was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing and eluding, reckless endangerment, driving a vehicle at a safe speed, careless driving and traffic control signals.

Boone was arraigned by District Justice Sobeck, who set bail at $5,000 unsecured.
