Drunken Driver Strikes Two Vehicles on Race Street, Police Say
Two cars were damaged during an early morning hit-and-run along the unit block of Race Street on Sunday.

A Delaware man is in custody after he allegedly struck two vehicles on Race Street while driving under the influence of alcohol early Sunday morning.
Police responded to the unit block of Race Street at 2:30 a.m. for a report of a hit-and-run. Upon arrival, police observed damage to two vehicles, and spoke to witnesses who stated that a male driver allegedly struck the vehicles and then fled the scene.
A vehicle matching the witnesses description was spotted a short time later, and police initiated a traffic stop, according to the report. Officers noted that the driver – identified as James M. Mitchell, 36, of Newark, DE – was slurring his speech and added that a strong odor of alcohol was eminating from his person, the report states.

Mitchell was transported back to the scene of the accident, where witnesses positively identified him as the driver, police said. He was then taken into custody, where it was learned that Mitchell is on probation, the report states.
Mitchell has been charged with DUI, and was taken to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility for the probation violation.
