Ambler – On March 7, 2013, a kick-off event was held for Democrat Jeanne Sorg, as she began her campaign for Ambler Mayor with the help of an overflow crowd of excited supporters at KC’s Alley. Estimates were well over 100 people in attendance, as they crowded the second floor and spilled down the steps to the first floor.
At the event, Chairman of the Montgomery County Commissioners, Josh Shapiro, said of Sorg: “Jeanne is someone who has the personal tools, the political tools and the governmental tools to get the job done as our next mayor of Ambler. Leslie [Richards] and I need people who we can work with around the county, and Jeanne is the exact type of person we need. I couldn’t be more proud to be here tonight to support Jeanne.”

Sorg stated: “I love Ambler. I love everything about it, but I also recognize that there are real challenges to an older municipality like Ambler. I work with them everyday in Rep. Steve McCarter’s office, but in these challenges are also opportunities.”
Sorg referenced the potential in responsible redevelopment of the brownfields along the rail corridor to keep taxes low by broadening the tax base, clean up the area and bring new commerce and residents to Ambler as a top issue she will focus on as mayor working with the borough council.

Showing popular support across Ambler, she submitted more than 200 signatures – or 20 times the required number of signatures – to be placed on the ballot.
“I am truly humbled by the strong support and encouragement I received from my neighbors across Ambler," Sorg said. "They have expressed their desire for a leader with the experience and knowledge to move our borough forward.”
In attendance at her kick-off were Montgomery County leaders at the state, county and municipal levels to support Sorg’s candidacy, including Chairman of the Montgomery County Commissioners Josh Shapiro, State Reps. Steve McCarter and Mary Jo Daley, Clerk of Courts Ann Weiss, Register of Wills D. Bruce Hanes and elected officials from municipalities surrounding Ambler.
Also in attendance were former state Representatives Rick Taylor, Mike Gerber, and Todd Eachus – former Majority Leader of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
