Late Night Police Chase Leads to Charges for Whitpain Man, Police Say

Police from multiple jurisdictions quickly joined the pursuit, which eventually ended when the vehicle was stopped in Lower Providence.

A Whitpain man is facing numerous criminal charges after he allegedly led police on a late night vehicle chase from Whitemarsh to Lower Providence.

On April 19 at 12:38 a.m., an officer from Whitpain Township saw a heavily damaged tan Chevy driving westbound on Skippack Pike. The vehicle had no working headlights, and parts of the vehicle were dragging in the roadway, according to the report.

When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver reportedly waved an unknown object inside of the car and refused to pull over. Police from multiple jurisdictions quickly joined the pursuit, which eventually ended when the vehicle was stopped in Lower Providence.

At the scene, the driver – identified as Michael Williams, 46, of the 200 Block of East Brown Street, Whitpain – reportedly began to resist arrest, which lead to Williams being tasered by a Lower Providence Police officer. Williams was then taken by ambulance to Einstein Medical Center for treatment.

Through the investigation, police determined that Williams had struck a bridge in Whitemarsh Township, which caused the severe damage to the vehicle, the report states.

Williams has been charged with fleeing and eluding, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest and various other charges.
