Underage Drinking Party Leads to DUI Charges for Ambler Teen, Police Say

An Ambler teen is facing multiple charges after he allegedly attempted to flee the scene of an underage drinking party in Whitpain on Saturday night.
At 11:02 p.m. on Feb. 23, Whitpain Township Police received a call about a suspected underage drinking party taking place along the 200 block of McClure Drive. Upon arrival, police allegedly found "numerous individuals on the lawn and inside the house," according to the report.
Police made a total of nine arrests on scene, including one female and two males from Ambler, two females and three males from Blue Bell and one female from Lock Haven. The juveniles that were not drinking were released to their parents.

The tenth arrest occurred as police were initially arriving to the scene, as they reported hearing a vehicle squealing its tires as it turned from Kerry Lane to McClure Drive without slowing.
Police ordered the driver – later identified as 18-year-old Jake Caplen, of Ambler – to stop, but he allegedly continued to flee with no headlights on. The report states that as Caplen was attempting to flee to Norristown Road, a partol car pulled onto Kerry Lane and was able to stop the vehicle.

Once stopped, the report describes Caplen as "argumentative and obviously intoxicated." Police also allegedly located a pipe containing burnt marijuana in Caplen's vehicle, the report states. He was later taken to Mercy Suburban for blood testing.
Charges including DUI, possession of paraphernalia, and related traffic violations will be filed upon receipt of the blood test results, the report states.
