Wissahickon School District, Support Staff Come to Contract Agreement

The school board will vote on the agreement on Monday, June 24 during a special meeting held at 5:30 p.m.

In a release on the district website, Wissahickon School District announced they have reached a tentative agreement with the Wissahickon Education Alliance Support Union and a vote will take place during a special meeting on Monday, June 24 at 5:30 p.m.

The two entities have agreed on a three year contract which is retroactive from July 1, 2012 and spans until June 30, 2015.

The contract provides a zero percent increase in salary during the first year of the contract and 2.75 percent increase during the second and third years of the contract.

Health care options for support staff have changed, and the district has provided options for staff.

Support staff that work less than six hours a day will only have the core PC 320 Plan as an option and when the contract concludes on June 29, 2015, the district will no longer pay for health insurance for this group.

The cost savings to the district for not paying for part time employees health insurance will approximately be $415,000 annually.

The district will also create a new "Technology Technician" position, "which requires employees to maintain Microsoft Managing and Maintenance Certification and Dell hardware technology certification by March 31, 2014," according to the release.

The district also agreed to cease further "subcontracting of Bargaining Unit work, with the exception of transportation services through attrition." However, this also ends at the end of the contract.
