Wissahickon Student Awarded National Merit Scholarship

The winners were selected from a pool of 15,000 semifinalists which already represented less than one percent of all high school seniors.

AMBLER, PA — A Wissahickon student has been honored with one of the nation's preeminent and most selective scholarships.

Senior Tiffany Chen, who plans to study statistics, was named a National Merit Scholar and will receive $2,500.

The winners were selected from a pool of 15,000 semifinalists which already represented less than one percent of all U.S. high school seniors. Some 1.5 million high school students enter hte program each year.

This award is funded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, and is independent from other types of National Merit Scholarships, including the recently announced corporate-sponsored winners, and the forthcoming-college sponsored winners.

All told, the program will disburse around 7,140 scholarships and $28 million in scholarship money.
