With the giving season nearly here, Patch readers should check out some of these local non-profit groups while considering local donations.
LOWER MERION, PA — If you’re like many of your Lower Merion-area neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.
Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.
Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Lower Merion area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:
- ElderNet of Lower Merion and Narberth — ElderNet helps older neighbors remain independent and provides a variety of free, practical services so they have access to healthcare, food security, and an improved quality of life.
- Lower Merion Cares — Lower Merion Caress seeks to fulfill basic needs such as clothing and services that support social and emotional well-being.
- Lower Merion Conservancy — The Lower Merion Conservancy protects and enhances the community’s character and quality of life by advocating for policies, programs, and projects that support its vision for the community and building a constituency that actively supports this vision.
- Ardmore Food Pantry — The Ardmore Food Pantry is an in-person, full choice pantry that provides for more than 150 families and individuals each week.
- A Better Chance Lower Merion — A Better Chance in Lower Merion is an all-male boarding program that supports students via academic advisors, tutors, and college advisors to maximize their future opportunities for higher education
