Famous Chef Michael Solomonov Hosting Main Line Israeli Food Festival

James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Solomonov will host the Jewish-Israeli food event May 7 for Israel's 75th anniversary in Wynnewood.

WYNNEWOOD, PA — One of Philadelphia's most famous and decorated chefs is coming to the Main Line for a food festival that's focused on his culinary expertise.

Five-time James Beard Foundation Award-Winning Chef Michael Solomonov will host A Taste of Israel Festival.

The festival will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 7 at the Saligman Campus at the Kaiserman JCC in Wynnewood to celebrate Israel’s 75th anniversary.

This community-wide event will feature more than 40 Israeli and Jewish foods, including falafel, bourekas, shawarma, arayes, Morrocan cigars, and more, and craft vendors

Food vendors include House of Kosher, Roling’s Bakery, Deluxe Catering, Brazilian BBQ, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Soom Foods, Star of David, Shalom Pizza, Rita’s Water Ice, and more.

All food prepared in the main demonstration tent will be under the supervision of Keystone-K and certified as Glatt kosher.

In addition, the Kashrut level of vendors outside the main tent will be indicated.

Cultural activities include face painting, balloon artists, moon bounce and inflatable amusements, photo booths, and Gaga. The a cappella group Six13 will also perform in concert.

The Taste of Israel Festival is the culminating event of the Jewish Federation’s Israel 75 celebrations, which included a Community Mitzvah Day featuring more than 25-volunteer events on April 23 and a Shabbat Gathering with more than 40 opportunities to observe on April 28 and April 29, throughout the Greater Philadelphia region.

Jewish Federation created a series of events to honor the Jewish State’s founding, culture, and the beauty and diversity of the people who live there."

Israel’s 75th anniversary is an important landmark for the country and for the Jewish people," said Michael Balaban, President and CEO, Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. "As an organization, it is our role to highlight the cultural achievements of the Jewish homeland by forging lasting pathways that connect the people of Greater Philadelphia with the people of Israel, like our Taste of Israel event."

Admission at $15 for adults and $6 for children in advance or $18 adults and $7 for children on the day of the event includes activities, crafts, food sampling and entertainment.

In addition to the food sampling, which is included in the price of admission, there will also be other Israeli foods and merchandise will be available for purchase at an additional cost, according to each vendor’s pricing.
