Great Escape: Audio Books

Escape into another world while doing every day chores.

Being a parent is a demanding, full-time job and finding a little “me time” can be a challenge. Each week, Patch will be finding new great escapes, at least temporarily, from the toils of being a parent.

This week’s Great Escape can be found at any bookstore or library. In our area, that includes:

  1. Online Through the Lower Merion Library System
    • Anyone with a Lower Merion library card can download audio books straight off of the Lower Merion Library System website, here. The library system offers WMA and MP3 formats, as well as ways to convert the files to work on most cell phones, PDAs, MP3 players and iPods. You can download up to 10 books at a time with a check out length of 14 days.
  2. At Local Libraries
    • All six local libraries have an audio books section for library users to check out and enjoy. Head to  or  and search the shelves for a good book.
  3. At Local Bookstores
    • book store in Wynnewood and Bryn Mawr carries a large selection of newly released audio books if you're looking for something that just came out.

Getting through a book can be a challenge as a parent, since they require your entire attention. Audiobooks can allow you a little time to escape while you are still taking care of the business of parenting your child. Audio books can be bought, rented or borrowed as CDs or MP3s. You can even find some still on cassette if that is your preferred media.
