Inaugural Sean A Hughes Golf Outing To Support Memorial Plaza, Garden

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The first-ever Sean A. Hughes Memorial Golf Outing is scheduled for Monday, May 13.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. at Green Valley Country Club, 201 Ridge Pike in Lafayette Hill.

Funds from the event will benefit the creation of the Sean A. Hughes Memorial Plaza and Garden at Lower Merion High School.

Sponsorship opportunities are available from $500 to $15,000.

Hughes, the former Lower Merion High School principal, died in a crash the morning of Nov. 13, 2021 in Winslow Township, New Jersey.

Azuka Ossai, 55, of Pine Hill, New Jersey, was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest and five years probation in connection with the deadly crash, that also hurt Hughes' son Nolan.

Hughes was principal at Lower Merion High School for 14 years and beloved by students, faculty, and staff.

Hughes was greeted by students in the halls everywhere he went, and was known for encouraging student engagement and maintaining countless personal relationships.

In addition to serving as principal, Hughes was also the president of the Central Athletic League.
Hughes is survived by his children Nolan, Jack, and Kate, as well as his wife, Kristi.
