Scammers Posing As Lower Merion Police, Department Warns
The calls, made by a man identifying himself as "Sgt. Chreiman," indicate to victims that they must immediately provide legal information.
LOWER MERION, PA - The Lower Merion Police Department has issued a warning to residents about an ongoing scam in which fraudsters pose as representatives of the department.
The calls reportedly come from a man identifying himself as "Sgt. Chreiman" of the Lower Merion Police Department and indicate that the recipient must immediately provide legal information.
“This is not a legitimate call and you will not be connected with Lower Merion police,” the department said. “Hang up.”

Residents who receive such a call are urged not to call back the scammers, and instead notify Lower Merion Police at 610-649-1000 or via 911.
“If you have any doubt about the veracity of the officer contacting you in any situation, you can always contact us to verify their information,” police said.

The Lower Merion Police Department also provided the following tips to avoid scammers:
- The police do not serve warrants over the phone, or demand immediate payment for outstanding warrants, tickets, subpoenas, or traffic violations. We do not collect monies on behalf of the courts over the phone, either.
- The police will not demand your social security information, bank account numbers, bank card, electronic payment, or social media information over the phone.
- The police will not demand that you confirm your demographics or other personal details over the phone unless we are engaged in a follow up call in which both parties know each other.
