3 Cars Stolen in 1 Week in Bala Cynwyd, Police Say

Police warn against leaving keys unattended in ignitions.

Three cars were stolen in Bala Cynwyd from Tuesday, Nov. 29 through Sunday, Dec. 4, Lower Merion police said at a weekly briefing for media Monday afternoon.

A bronze 2011 BMW 328xi was stolen from the dealership at 8:14 p.m. Nov. 29, police said. The dealership had just sold the car, and a salesman parked the car out front and left the key in it. When the salesman went inside to get the new owner, the car was stolen, police said. The car was recovered the next day by southwest detectives in Philadelphia, police said.

A black Honda 2-door car was stolen at about 8 a.m. Dec. 1 from the Main Line Honda Auto Body on the 200 block of Rock Hill Road in Bala Cynwyd. The car was there for service, and the owner arrived to pick up the car. While the car was defrosting, an unknown man jumped in the car and drove it away, police said.

A dark blue BMW 530i station wagon was stolen at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 4 from the 500 block of Conshohocken State Road in Bala Cynwyd, police said. The homeowner left the keys on the seat and went into the house to get something, but when the homeowner returned minutes later, the car was gone. When the homeowner’s cell phone GPS was activated, the phone was discovered at the intersection of Bala and City avenues.

Police said drivers should not leave their keys in the car or in the ignition unattended when they are running errands or while warming up the vehicle.
