5-Year-Old, Man Shot In Lower Merion Township: Police

The shooting occurred in a parking lot during a custody exchange, according to police.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — A 5-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man were shot Sunday morning in Lower Merion Township, according to police.

The incident was reported to authorities around 8 a.m. and occurred in the parking lot of a former Lord & Taylor store in the 100 block of East City Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, police said.

The child was shot in the foot and the man, a Philadelphia resident, had multiple gunshot wounds, according to police, who said the two were struck during a custody exchange. The shooter, a male, is in police custody, authorities said.

The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the man was brought to Lankenau Medical Center, according to police, who said the victims’ injuries were not life-threatening.
